The Waterside Operatic Society was established in 1968 with the aim of promoting musical drama and as a fund-raiser for charity. The President of the society is Belinda, Lady Montagu.
The society changed its name change to Waterside Musical Society in 2001.
We are based in the Waterside area of Southampton which encompasses the towns and villages of Hythe, Holbury, Marchwood, Blackfield, Fawley, Beaulieu and Exbury. We rehearse on Friday evenings from January to July, and then again from September to November with some additional rehearsals, particularly for principals, on Monday evenings.
There is a wealth of musical talent amongst the membership, but not everyone wants to be a star. In the Chorus, there is "safety in numbers" and the society is always willing (desperate) to welcome new members.
There are also opportunities for budding Producers, Musical Directors and Stage Managers, and for those of you who don't feel musically inclined, come and help behind the scenes, building and painting sets, or with the design of Lighting and Sound.
